A few hybrid banjos combine the best of both an electric and traditional guitar. They have a profile similar to an electric guitar and are made from a solid piece of wood. The head is cut out and electronic pickups sense vibrations. These electric banjos can easily be used with a standard guitar amp and will hold their sound in amplified contexts without any feedback.
The banjolele, a hybrid instrument, combines the versatility and ease of learning of a ukulele and the sound of a small banjo. Banjoleles can be played with ease due to their 4 strings and shorter neck. They also have a smaller head and are easier to integrate into quieter acoustic groups.
